Aluminum Flood-Plank Barrier System
Introducing the Hammerhead™ aluminum flood barrier system — a robust stop-log solution designed to shield doorways and other openings from floodwater.
how it works
Two U-channel mounting posts (installed to either side of the opening) serve as the guide rails. When flooding is anticipated, aluminum planks (or “logs”) are stacked into the channels until the desired height is reached. Rubber EPDM seals on the underside of each plank—and inside the post slots—help form a tight water-resistant barrier. For additional protection in high wind or debris conditions, the planks are clamped down and tightened within their channels.
Mounting Options & Installation
You can choose to mount posts either
inside or
outside the opening, depending on wall construction, door hardware clearance, or aesthetic preferences. Outside mounting is often preferred because the wall provides extra support.
Applications & Use Cases
The Hammerhead™ system is suited for protecting a wide variety of openings, including:
- Entry doors
- Window wells
- Loading docks
- Basement stairwells
- Garage entrances and ramps
- Passageways and perimeter walls
Key Benefits
- Space-efficient storage — When not in use, the planks stack compactly.

FAQs & Design Considerations
- Seal against ground: The bottom plank includes an EPDM seal. To achieve a proper seal, the ground beneath should be level or prepped (e.g. patched or built with a concrete footer).
- Span limits: For larger spans, use a center post. For example, spans under ~10 ft may be handled without a center post at lower heights.
- Inside vs. outside mounting: Inside mounts reduce usable width slightly (by ~4″ per side). Confirm clearance around hinges, trim, and hardware.
- Removable posts & corners: The system supports drop-in anchor bolts for removable center posts, and 90° corner pieces for perimeter protection.
- Maintenance: Inspect biannually to ensure integrity. Clean with mild detergent or low-pressure water, and avoid damaging seals.
- Finish & painting: Posts can be painted to match your building, but internal seals should be removed prior to painting.
